WaferFioc Metabolic

Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS) is a condition characterized by metabolic alterations, often associated with reduced insulin sensitivity. Consequently, horses may have difficulty properly managing sugars introduced through their diet.

It is a condition that primarily affects horses prone to being overweight or particularly sensitive to sugars. Management requires attention to diet, body weight, and physical activity. A balanced and controlled diet can help support the horse’s proper metabolism. For this reason, the choice of feed and the amount provided become important elements in daily management.

Benefits of Chicory
Chicory is a natural source of inulin, a soluble fiber with a prebiotic function that can contribute to the well-being of the digestive system. Inulin is fermented by intestinal flora and can promote the maintenance of a balanced microbiota, supporting normal physiological bowel function. Furthermore, chicory has a low sugar and starch content—a feature that is particularly interesting for the nutrition of horses whose carbohydrate intake needs to be controlled.

Indicated for:

  • Horses predisposed to or suffering from Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS).

  • Older horses with increased nutritional needs or difficulty maintaining body condition.

  • Horses experiencing coat loss during the shedding period.

  • Horses affected by Cushing’s syndrome.

Did you know that…
Crude proteins: are the building blocks of the body and serve to build tissues and muscles.
Raw fats: are a source of energy and must be commensurate with the daily energy needs of animals.
Crude fibre (or raw cellulose): is essential for horses since it promotes chewing and therefore digestion and intestinal motility.
Crude ash: are the inorganic component, i.e. the minerals contained in the ingredients of food. They are called “crude ashes” because, if we incinerate the food, they would be the part that remains (the ash, in fact), while the organic component would be completely burned. For example: Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium.
