Equibar Respirity®
All-natural nutrition bar for respiratory system for horses
Due to its particular formation, a horse’s respiratory system needs special attention in everyday life, especially those involved in sporting activities. The balanced and completely natural formulation of Equibar Respirity® aims to support the normal functioning of the animal’s respiratory system.
Thanks to the synergistic properties of three herbs, Thyme, Red Spruce bark and Echinacea, Equibar Respirity® acts on two fronts: favouring the fluidisation of bronchial secretions and supporting the body’s natural defences. Thyme, with its expectorant, antiseptic and mucolytic properties, promotes clearing of the airways, while Red Spruce bark has a secretolytic and antiseptic action, helping to relieve the ailments of the upper respiratory tract. Echinacea also stimulates the immune system, helping the horse to defend itself more effectively against pathogens.
The main advantages of using Equibar Respirity®
Equibar Respirity® has been clinically tested on horses with both chronic and acute respiratory conditions, including those with inflammatory or allergic sensitivities.
Product developed in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Padova.
Product FAQs
Thyme, with its expectorant, antiseptic and mucolytic properties, promotes clearing of the airways, while Red Spruce has a secretolytic and antiseptic action, helping to relieve upper respiratory tract illnesses. Lastly, Echinacea is also used for the treatment and prevention of cold-related illnesses and improves immune system function, helping the horse to defend itself more effectively against pathogens.
*Equibar Respirity is not a substitute for any veterinary treatment.
The different Equibar® bars can be given to horses at the same time or in any case during the same day, respecting the recommended dosage for each. They can be fed in their entirety as a biscuit (also as a reward for horses) or crumbled in the manger in combination with feed or WaferFioc®.
Continued use is recommended, but it is always advisable to seek the advice of a veterinarian, especially in case of simultaneous administration of other drugs or chronic diseases.
*If the cough persists or also occurs when resting, it is important to consult your veterinarian.
However, environmental factors such as dust, mould and poor ventilation can increase the risk of developing these problems, especially in equines living in such conditions.
Remember that a well-fed horse, with an active life and suitable environment, is less likely to get sick.
• Use of blankets: Use a blanket only when needed, i.e. at night or when very cold. During the day, remove itto prevent sweating.
• Shearing: If sweating a lot, shear the horse to help regulate its temperature.
• Bathe with caution: Avoid wetting the horse completely with cold water. A hot shower and thorough dryingin a warm place is better.
• Acute allergies: They cause symptoms such as coughing, difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. These symptoms often disappear when the cause of the allergy is eliminated.
• Chronic allergies: They cause the same symptoms but are more persistent because it is difficult to completely eliminate the cause (for example, dust or mites).
A horse with chronic allergy is not necessarily broken winded. A broken winded horse (with a BCO or COPD diagnosis) has a chronic disease of the bronchi and lungs. Symptoms include continuous coughing, abdominal breathing, increased respiratory rate with typical belly breathing and reluctance to work hard.
Taking a few simple steps can make a difference such as:
• Ensuring your horse has a clean and well-ventilated environment.
• Performing outdoor activities every day.
• Choosing hay free of dust and mould.
• Opting for feed without aflatoxins.
• Avoiding the horse breathing in dust raised from the ground.
• Not exposing the horse to drafts if very sweaty or wet.
• Not putting the horse in the stable immediately after work but always let it have a cooling phase.
• Avoiding blankets when it is hot and the horse is sweating.

Did you know that…
Raw fats: are a source of energy and must be commensurate with the daily energy needs of animals.
Crude fibre (or raw cellulose): is essential for horses since it promotes chewing and therefore digestion and intestinal motility.
Crude ash: are the inorganic component, i.e. the minerals contained in the ingredients of food. They are called “crude ashes” because, if we incinerate the food, they would be the part that remains (the ash, in fact), while the organic component would be completely burned. For example: Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium.
